Suzanne Somers has done it again in her newest book, "Breakthrough." Somers' Eight Steps to Wellness and doctor interviews are highly informative and interesting.

Editor's Choice

Once again Suzanne Somers has produced a thought provoking, inspiring book – perhaps her best yet. While her interest and belief in bio identical hormones still dominates her writing, “Breakthrough” is an outstanding collection of interviews with top leading anti-aging doctors who share their beliefs regarding the many new treatments available to alleviate the degenerative process endured while growing old.

Bio Identicals

Somers still strongly advocates the use of bio identical hormones, and so do the numerous doctors, all leaders in their fields, that she interviews. It has become abundantly clear, that while many doctors still don’t prescribe bio identical hormones to women (and men), a growing avalanche of doctors is doing so. Indeed, it appears as though many doctors are taking bio identical themselves.

Somers goes to great length to explain why these particular types of hormones are beneficial. Whether a woman is menopausal or not, increasingly it is claimed that bio identicals will stop many degenerative diseases from occurring. By keeping one’s hormones at optimal levels, many diseases are kept at bay, such as osteoporosis, breast cancer, dementia, heart disease, etc.

AntiAging Medicine

Most of the doctors that Somers interviews are specialists in “Anti-Aging Medicine.” These are doctors who are on the leading edge of medical advancement. Some of them began their careers in anti-aging medicine; some switched to this field because they did not like the typical protocols and outlook for treating people using pharmaceuticals.

These doctors do prescribe pharmaceuticals when it’s appropriate. They do not oppose conventional medical practice, but most prefer to treat patients in less callous, invasive ways and to treat patients as individuals, not as carbon copies where each person is prescribed the same medicine or amounts.

Much of the anti-aging advice in this book is familiar: get plenty of sleep; eat lots of vegetables; avoid chlorinated water; avoid meat, chicken, fish etc. that have been fed toxic diets; stop drinking diet sodas.

Environmental Toxins

Part of our health issues, according to Somers et al, is that we are bombarded by toxins, much of which is out of our control. Indeed, people are subject to more toxins in the environment now than ever before in history. Besides the obvious ones, like air and water pollution, herbicides and pesticides are sprayed on our foods, medications and antibiotics often have toxic effects, exposure to ELFs and VLFs take their toll, sprays, lotions, fluoride, chlorine, MSG, aspartame – the list is endless.

Eight Steps to Wellness

Besides interviewing numerous leading medical experts who have chosen to specialize in anti-aging type medicine, Somers also spends time discussing her Eight Steps to Wellness. These are:

  • Get bioidentical hormones
  • Avoid Chemicals and Detoxify Your Body
  • Take Nutrition Seriously
  • Create a Healthy GI Tract
  • Avoid Pharmaceuticals Unless Absolutely Necessary
  • Supplement Your Diet
  • Exercise Regularly
  • Get Proper Sleep

Nanotechnology

While most everything Somers includes in her book makes perfect sense, there are items that give one pause, such as the LifeWave nanotechnology patches. Most advice or products in the book can easily be substantiated, but the credibility of the nanotechnology patches may be questioned by some, yet are wildly praised by Somers.

Preventive Medicine

The bottom line in Somers’ work is really preventive medicine. Why wait until one is sick before one takes appropriate action? Somers and her band of doctors urge one to be proactive with one’s health. The old adage, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” doesn’t fly with these practitioners. Stop degenerative diseases before they get a stronghold in your body seems to be the message of this finely written book.
